GENEVA (AFP) – Some 1.7 million internally displaced people, or nearly half the total, have returned to their homes in southern Sudan since a 2005 peace deal, the International Organization for Migration said Friday.

Up to four million people were forced to flee during two decades of fighting between the north and south of Sudan, but the IOM said a new report based on interviews with 875,000 people indicate that close to half have returned.

The report also showed that six in 10 returning families are headed by single women, and 59 percent of all returnees are children or aged up to 17.

Only one in 10 returnees is 60 or older.

My Comment: These refugees may be fleeing from areas that are even worse than South Sudan. This entire part of Africa is becoming one giant failed state.
