Iraq's Maliki Wins Key Backing In Bid To Form A Coalition Government -- L.A. Times

Muqtada Sadr's political movement says it will support the prime minister for a second term.

Reporting from Baghdad — Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr's political movement Friday announced its support for Iraq Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's bid for a second term, a significant boost for Maliki despite ongoing obstacles over who will lead the country.

Rival Shiite religious factions are in negotiations to form an alliance with Maliki's chief competitor, former prime minister Ayad Allawi.

My Comment: After having no government for 6 months .... Iraqis are now stucked with the old one. As for the U.S., the choice is clear .... best to have the devil that you know in power, than no one at all.
