US Shifts Strategy On Taliban -- Al Jazeera
Obama administration once pledged to win the war against the Taliban but it now says the group is not the enemy.
US officials confirmed this week that they are considering a prisoner swap deal with the Taliban as part of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan next year.
Officials say they are considering transferring five Taliban members out of the Guantanamo Bay prison, in a bid to begin negotiations for a peace deal with the Taliban.
The confirmation appears to be a complete turnaround for the administration of US President Barack Obama.

My Comment: The costs in lives, monies, and (for politicians) political capital is reaching a tipping point in both Washington and in NATO capitals. There is no longer public interest in this war, and with the debt/financial crisis continuing, cutting budgets and saving money is becoming the priority .... and not fighting a war in a place like Afghanistan. Hence .... the shift in strategy and tone from the White House.
