Sri Lanka military: Soldiers capture rebel-held northern village after 3-week battle
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: A three-week battle culminated in government troops capturing a Tamil Tiger rebel-held village in northern Sri Lanka on Thursday, while separate fighting in the region left 12 guerrillas dead, the military said.
Also Thursday, the air force bombed two northern rebel positions, the military said.
The casualties were the latest in the island's escalating civil war, marked by near-daily airstrikes, sea and ground battles, as well as frequent bombings. The United Nations estimates that 200 civilians have been killed in targeted bombings so far this year.

My Comment: The Sri Lankan Government is going for broke in defeating its enemies in this long civil war. The next few months will be critical in seeing if they will be successful.
