Iran Could Spark Mideast Nuclear Arms Race: British FM -- AFP
LONDON (AFP) — British Foreign Secretary David Miliband warned Tuesday of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East if Iran was allowed to press ahead unchecked with a uranium enrichment programme.
Speaking a day after Iran's nuclear negotiator protested over the West's attitude to Tehran's atomic programme, he said Britain was "very concerned" about Iran's refusal to be frank with the International Atomic Energy Authority Agency (IAEA), the UN's nuclear watchdog.
"We are making a serious offer to Iran for economic, cultural, and scientific co-operation which I think is the way forward," he said in an exchange with lawmakers in the House of Commons.

My Comment: If a nuclear arms race is to begin, the Arab states will need to lay the groundwork immediately to develop a nuclear weapons program. But this will take them years and a huge infrastructure with talented people to successfully develop such a program. This is something that they do not have right now.
What I expect from a successful test of an Iranian nuclear device will be the establishment of a new alliance of Arab states .... falling under a nuclear umbrella with the U.S. or NATO as the nuclear ally.
