World Remembers The Horror Of First World War On Armistice Day -- Times Online
90 years on from the Armistice, Europe looks back at four years of conflict which senselessly killed 20 million people

Ceremonies were held throughout Europe today to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Britain held a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who were killed - marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the Armistice Treaty was signed.

Of the five million men and women who served, four British veterans are still alive today.

Henry Allingham, 112, representing the RAF, Bill Stone, 108, representing the Navy, and Harry Patch, 110, representing the Army, all laid wreaths at the Cenotaph ceremony.
