From AFP:KIWANJA, DR Congo (AFP) – Rebels smashed a ceasefire and wrested control of another town in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in clashes with government forces on the eve of a regional summit on the crisis, the UN said on Thursday.
Rebels of Laurent Nkunda's National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) had seized control of the centre of Nyanzale after government forces had fled the town, said Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Paul Dietrich, spokesman for the UN mission in DR Congo, MONUC.
