Buoyed by high expectations for the first year of Barack Obama’s administration, an informal coalition of progressive national-security and civil-liberties experts are urging the president-elect to redefine the war on terrorism.
Eight years of the Bush administration’s approach to counterterrorism have yielded two open-ended and bloody wars; a massively expanded security apparatus, and spending on defense far outpacing outlays on domestic programs, even during a crisis-plagued economy.

My Comment: When I finished this article, I could not help but shake my head. The writers of this piece have no understanding of who and what the enemy is. As much as I have been critical of President Bush's approach in the war against Islamic extremism and fundamentalism .... these writers are out to lunch.
I doubt very much if President Obama will take their recommendations on face value. What he will probably do is cherry pick what he feels conforms with national security and the long term strategic goals of the U.S. .... at least I hope that this is what he will do.
