Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. military will seek to buy as many as 10,000 all-terrain, blast-proof trucks in an ``urgent'' competition to supply vehicles to protect troops in Afghanistan.

The ``most probable'' number of the vehicles, known as MRAP All-Terrain Vehicles, or M-ATVs, to be purchased jointly by the Army and Marine Corps is 2,080, the U.S. Army said in a statement posted today on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site. Bidders should be prepared to supply as many as the maximum of 10,000 trucks and as many as five companies will win awards in the competition to start by Dec. 1.
