Berlin has released details about a skirmish with pirates last week. A German navy warship opened fire on two speedboats that seemed intent on hijacking a cruise ship. No one was injured, but European navies are busy off the Horn of Africa.
A German frigate in the Gulf of Oman headed off an attack on a cruise ship by two speedboats last Friday, according to a German Defense Ministry presented to parliament this week. Two "suspect" speedboats travelling towards the German ocean liner MS Astor in the Gulf of Oman were fired on by machine guns on the frigate Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to the report. The speed boats dashed away in another direction, it said.

My Comment: If true, this is the first time the German Navy has fired in a hostile manner since the Second World War.
