An Iraqi court has sentenced Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as Chemical Ali, to death for his role in the brutal crushing of a 1991 Shi'ite uprising.
Tuesday's verdict was Majid's second death sentence. He was condemned to be hanged last year for his role in killing thousands of Kurds in the 1980s. Legal disputes have delayed the execution.
The court Tuesday also sentenced former Baath party official Abdul-Ghani Abdul-Ghafur to death for his role in the crackdown on Shi'ites.
