UNITED NATIONS – Arab nations decided Thursday to put aside their proposed U.N. Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and negotiate on a rival text put forward by Britain and backed by the United States and France, diplomats said.
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa told reporters after several rounds of talks on the Western-backed text that Arab nations were still pushing for a council vote on a resolution later in the day.
The wrangling came on the third day of an emergency council session demanded by the Arabs to try to end the fighting in Gaza.
