The former head of the CIA unit charged with liquidating Osama Bin Laden said that national security officials in the Clinton administration "had no qualms" about transferring al Qaeda suspects to countries with reputations for torture.
Michael A. Scheuer, who worked on finding Bin Laden from 1996 to his retirement in 2004, made the allegation during an April 17, 2007 House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing on the treatment of terrorism suspects picked up by the CIA.

My Comment: Thank you Mr. Scheuer for putting light on an ugly truth that many Democrats do not want to be revealed . During President Clinton's administration, prisoners were being transferred to other countries that had shady and/or terrible human rights records when it came to torture and prisoner abuse. To plead ignorance or being unaware is silly at best .... dangerous if you were one of the prisoners transferred,
Even I knew about what was happening .... and I am a civilian. When I travelled in the early 90s to the Middle East, I always had the perception that a Middle Eastern prison would be like something out of Midnight Express .... a Turkish prison that is nothing more but hell on earth.
Yeasr later, we now know that the movie Midnight Express was closer to reality than fiction.
Will Leon Panetta still be approved for CIA Director .... you betcha. He represents the perfect face of what America wants to see in the CIA. A faceless bureaucrat who talks the talk .... but will never walk the walk .... and will never get the CIA the leeway to do things that a lot of Americans also do not want to see happen.
But this will not keep us safe .... and this will also just embolden our enemies.
