Barack Obama has been forced to delay the announcement of a new US strategy in Afghanistan due to disagreements inside his administration over paying 'bribes' to the Taliban.

Sharp divisions have emerged over the ethics and effectiveness of paying militants to lay down their arms.

President Barack Obama had hoped to unveil his plans for a troop surge well before the Nato summit on April 5, but may now have to wait until the meeting in Strasbourg.

My Comment: Offering the Taliban the choice of either lead (i.e. a bullet to the head) or gold .... this is a practice that goes back to the dawn of man. It is a legitimate policy, and should be pursued.
