Iraq Concern Over Lack Of US Engagement

Adel Abdel-Mahdi, Iraq’s vice president, has expressed concern over a weakening of American political engagement in Iraq, and predicted that some troops could remain beyond the 2011 withdrawal deadline to train and assist Iraqi forces, but not to engage in combat operations.

Mr Abdel-Mahdi, however, insisted that Iraqis themselves now had to take up the challenge of governing, and that the recent surge in violence should not derail US plans to withdraw its troops.

“Certainly I’m nervous but this is a challenge we have to take,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East, held over the weekend at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

My Comment: Everyone is worried on what will happen to Iraq when U.S. forces are out of the country. If the security situation continues to deteriorates .... expect this concern to be changed to worry and panic.

Is the U.S. administration focused more on other issues than Iraq .... the answer is definitely. Is it wise .... we shall soon find out.
