Terror Suspects Slip Past FBI Watch List

From The Washington Times:

Nearly eight years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the FBI's terrorist watch list is so flawed that at least 10 people who should have been kept out of the United States were allowed to cross its borders, an internal audit released Wednesday shows.

Department of Justice Inspector General Glenn A. Fine concluded that the bureau also was slow to remove names that should not have been on the list, leading to outcries from civil libertarians who have long been critical.

The list also audited more than 65,000 names and concluded that more than one-third were outdated. The whole list includes 1.1 million names, though aliases and variant spellings mean these represent fewer people.

My Comment: This is old news (the sloppiness and the bureaucratic nightmare of this list is well known), but this story is now being pushed (and pushed hard) by senior Democrats.

I have to ask why .... and the answer that I find is very troubling. Senior political leaders are telling us that U.S. National Security is failing us at our borders, and that some real bad people are sneaking in. This is a message that is being repeated and repeated ..... and when a politician starts to repeat the same story this tells me that he is legitimately afraid that it may come true and that he/she will be blamed for it.

Readers of this blog know that I have been a critic on the actions of Congress and President Obama when it comes to anti-terrorism procedures, the CIA, our borders, and the men and women who work tirelessly trying their best to protect us. But while I have accepted the outcome of the electorate that gave President Obama and Congress the mandate to change our foreign policy and on how we protect ourselves, I have also made it very clear that in the event of another 9/11 (or worse) should befall us, the blame for this security failure will be put at the door of those who have placed us in that situation.

Some in Congress do not want to be put in this position. By being critical of the FBI, they are hoping that in the event of a terrible terrorist attack .... they would have insulated themselves from criticism.

I am not buying this. You cannot have your cake .... and you cannot eat it at the same time.
