U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Does Not Rule Out An Israeli Pre-Emptive Strike On Iran

Don’t Discount Israel Pre-Emptive Strike, Hillary Clinton Warns Iran -- Times Online

Hillary Clinton refused yesterday to rule out a pre-emptive Israeli military strike on Iran. It was the first time that a senior member of the Obama Administration had openly discussed such a possibility.

The US Secretary Of State, speaking a few days before elections in Iran that will determine the fate of President Ahmadinejad, also warned that the country would face retaliation if it launched a nuclear attack on Israel.

My Comment: This contradicts previous news reports and announcements from the White House. In fact, (ignoring the rhetoric), the U.S. has made it very clear that they are 100% against any Israeli pre-emptive strike, and have taken steps to make sure that such an event does not happen. i.e. prohibiting the sale of special bunker busting bombs, and stopping the sale of advanced U.S. military equipment and helicopters to Israel.

For Israel to attack Iran, it would have to cross U.S. controlled Iraqi airspace .... an impossibility even in the best of circumstances .... and its attack will be known by the Iranians before Israeli jets can even enter Iranian airspace.

The other option is the use of their subs. I an not knowledgeable about Israel's cruise missile technology and whether or not they have the ability to fire these missiles from their subs .... but even if they did and were able to enter the Persian Gulf undetected, I doubt that the damage that they will be able to do will be significant enough to put a dent in Iran's nuclear program.

No .... this is just rhetoric from Washington. I do not even take her threat of U.S. retaliation against Iran seriously in the event that Iran has nuclear weapons and uses them against Israel. The U.S. Government is not going to jeopardize the safety of its own cities just for Israel. The reason why is simple .... the U.S. may be successful in wiping out Iran, but one or two nukes delivered to the U.S. immediately or in due time from Iran will have a devastating and long lasting impact .... an option that I doubt President Obama is willing to take.
