Blogger: America ‘Less Safe’ Without More F-22s

“America is less safe now than it was an hour ago,” The Weekly Standard’s Michael Goldfarb declared, after the Senate voted down a proposal to buy seven more F-22 fighters on top of those already paid for. Paired with a similar House move to add a dozen Raptors, the pro-F-22 Senate proposal would have kept the $65-billion jet program alive an extra year, at least. Now the stealthy fighter is unlikely to remain in production after the 187th copy rolls out of Lockheed Martin’s Georgia factory in late 2011. And contrary to Goldfarb’s assertion, this does not make America less safe.

My Comment: I doubt that this will change anything. The F-22 is an incredible airplane that was built to fight against an opposing superpower.

But there are no more opposing superpower countries today .... nor will there be one in the next decade or two.

Best spend the money on researching and developing unmanned UAVs, and hope that the F-35 does not become a dud or financial boondoggle that some critics are afraid that it will become.
