US Marines In Mass Assault On Taliban Town -- The Telegraph

More than 400 US Marines took part in a predawn helicopter assault on a key Afghan town exchanging fire with insurgents, as harrier jets dropped ground shaking bombs and cannon raked suspected Taliban positions.

Operation Eastern Resolve II was launched overnight to wrest control of Dahaneh, near Nowzad, Helmand so that voting stations can be set up before the Afghan presidential and parliamentary elections in ten days time.
