Colombia Wants Military Pacts With Brazil, Others -- Reuters

MEDELLIN, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Colombia would like to increase its military ties with Brazil and other South American countries, President Alvaro Uribe said on Friday in the face of criticism over an pending security pact with Washington.

Uribe's government is expected to sign a deal this month giving U.S. forces increased access to military bases in order to better fight the cocaine trade and Marxist insurgents.

My Comment: The regional powers are Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. The wannabe powers are Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, and Nicaragua.

Colombia is going all out to form alliances with other countries and to crush once and for all the FARC guerrillas in their country. They have the will to win .... and they are now applying it. More importantly, many of the major regional powers in the region are supporting Colombia's efforts in both political and (soon to be) military assistance. The IBDeditorial is a must read.
