The U.K. has stated it will stop ordering Eurofighter Typhoons. Part of the deal drawn up years ago was that all country partners were to buy a set number. The U.K. is stopping now before its set order number. There are statements from the other partners that the U.K. must honor the deal. However, what is one to do?
The U.K. hardly has enough cash for airlift, helicopters and navy ships. The Army, which does most of the work in the war, is underfunded. This is probably the end of the discussion on the Eurofighter Typhoon. There just is no money.
Gordon Brown repeatedly tried to pull out of the Eurofighter deal while he was chancellor but Britain itself insisted when the contract was negotiated in the early 1990s that each country must pay for all the aircraft it had committed to, regardless of whether or not it took delivery of them.
