How Effective Are Terrorist Rehabilitation Programs? -- Christian Science Monitor
Recent attacks in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have left some wondering whether attempts to turn militants away from terrorism have failed.
Police in Indonesia were once lauded for their track record of rehabilitating hardened terrorists, turning them into informants and aides. But then a graduate of one of those programs turned back to terrorism and died in a spectacular shoot-out with police in August.

My Comment: Of the many things that I have learned in my life, the most important one is the following. People never change .... they only change when they hit rock bottom. These Guantanamo inmates and the terrorists arrested in other countries .... they do not strike me as men who have hit rock bottom. If anything, most of them feel emboldened and for those who have served in Guantanamo .... either victimized or honored.
Saudi Arabia setting up a "Betty Ford Clinic" for terrorists does not impress me .... and frankly I doubt that it impresses the terrorists themselves. It is all PR ... for us and for themselves.
