House-Senate Budget Clash Looms On Big Programs -- Defense News
The U.S. Senate is expected to approve a $625.8 billion defense budget by Oct. 7, setting the stage for a potentially confrontational conference with the House over ships, planes and funding for the war in Afghanistan.
The House passed its version of the 2010 Defense Appropriations Act in July. Total spending is about the same, but there are some key differences in what the budget would buy.

On a side note .... the problem with this budget resolution is that in the event that President Obama does approve of a surge in Afghanistan .... there is no consideration of it in this budget. Is this why the White House has been quiet on this issue? .... hmmmm .... is this their way of making nice with Congress in the event that they do need a special budget supplemental for this change in policy. It appears that there is a lot of politics involved right now.
