House Liberals Float Bill To Bar 'Surge' Of Troops For Afghanistan -- The Hill

Nearly two dozen House liberals have signed onto a bill introduced this past week that would prohibit an increase of troops in Afghanistan.

A bill introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) on Thursday would bar funding to increase the troop level in Afghanistan beyond its current level.

Lee and 21 lawmakers -- largely from the liberal Congressional Progressive Caucus -- introduced the bill, H.R. 3699 on Thursday.

My Comment: This is just the first volley. While the Democrat political establishment may regard Afghanistan as a war of "necessity" and will support President Obama, many in the Democrat base have a different point of view.

If a surge is ordered into Afghanistan, expect more protests and dissatisfaction from the Democrat base and many of its hard core supporters.
