Frustrated Palestinians To Seek UN Backing For Separate State -- Times Online

Palestinian officials, frustrated by the deadlock in peace talks, announced yesterday that they would seek a UN Security Council resolution recognising an independent Palestinian state.

Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, told Israel’s army radio that Palestinians were “fed up with your time-wasting”. He did not give a time frame for the resolution, but said that the state would be along the 1967 armistice lines, with east Jerusalem as its capital — territory inhabited by more than 500,000 Jewish settlers.
