World Food Security Summit Opens In Rome -- UPI

ROME, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- World leaders -- minus some of the large players -- met in Rome Monday to discuss ways to address world hunger.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened the summit by telling delegates more than 17,000 children would die of starvation in one day, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

"One every five seconds. Five million each year," Ban said. "This is no longer acceptable. We must act."
