US, Russia Push Toward Post-START Agreement: Mullen -- AFP
WASHINGTON — The United States and Russia are both intent on reaching agreement on a successor to the START I treaty but it must be "ratifiable" by the US Senate, the head of the US military said Tuesday.
The two sides failed to reach an agreement before the December 5 expiration of the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, a cornerstone of the Cold War arms control regimes that kept in check the two nuclear-armed superpowers.
