British PM Brown Visits Afghanistan, Vows to Defeat Taliban -- Voice of America

British public support for Britain's troop presence in Afghanistan has waned as troop casualties have risen.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says the next few months will be critical as more international troops join the fight against the insurgency in Afghanistan.

Mr. Brown also said during a previously unannounced visit to Afghanistan Sunday that Afghan and international forces will press on to defeat the Taliban.

He met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai at a military base in Kandahar.
