Iraq's Shia Parties Agree Coalition -- The Telegraph

Iraq's Shia parties have agreed a new governing coalition, breaking a two-month election impasse but risking a dangerous backlash from the minority Sunni population.

The ruling State of Law party and the Iraqi National Alliance, a grouping of smaller and more radical Shia factions, said they would now hold an internal ballot for prime minister.

The parties further risked enraging the Sunni community, whose favoured candidate, Ayad Allawi, polled top in the March elections, by agreeing to give Shia clerics the final say in any dispute within the new coalition.
