US Air Force Sends Data To Rival Bidder -- The Telegraph

The US Air Force has admitted to mistakenly sending the wrong documents to arch-rivals EADS and Boeing at a key moment in the tender contest for new aerial refuelling tankers, giving away sensistive information about each other's bidding plans.

The Pentagon said the mishap was a "clerical error" that did not favour one side or the other. "It basically levelled the playing field, providing each with the same information," said a spokesman.

The data sent by computer disk included pricing information on each bid, revealing crucial proprietary secrets on both the tanker deal and potentially on foreign military sales as well. The mix occured during a routine software excercise.
