McKeon Predicts Battle Over Potential U.S. Defense Cuts -- Defense News

The likely next chairman of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee expects a "battle" next year between lawmakers who want to further swell the Pentagon's $700 billion annual budget and those advocating cuts.
Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Calif., told a Nov. 15 forum in Washington that he is worried the Obama administration will renege on its promise to allow Defense Secretary Robert Gates to keep funds he saves by ridding unnecessary costs from the military budget and shift those funds to hardware programs.
