Two French Hostages Killed in Niger Rescue Raid, France Says -- Bloomberg Businessweek

Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Two French citizens kidnapped yesterday in the Niger capital of Niamey were killed today during an effort to rescue them before they were taken into neighboring Mali, French Defense Minister Alain Juppe said.

The two hostages were found dead at the end of an assault by Niger national guardsmen and “French elements” present in the area against the kidnappers, Juppe said in an e-mailed statement in Paris today.
