He's elusive, relatively unknown and is normally pictured wearing aviator sunglasses.

Now former Pakistan commando Ilyas Kashmiri - linked to multiple terror plots such as a series of ‘Mumbai style’ Europe attacks - could take over from Osama Bin Laden.

He has emerged as a dark horse to become leader of Al Qaeda because Bin Laden’s long-time presumed successor Ayman al-Zawahri is very unpopular in some circles.

My Comment: At the moment it is hard to see anyone being the "leader" of Al Qaeda for the simple reason being that Al Qaeda is not that type of organization. But what can change the dynamics right now is if Ilyas Kashmiri or some other Al Qaeda leader wannabe conducts a successful terror operation against the west right now. The publicity and impact from such an attack would elevate them in the jihadist movement to a status that would give them the "moral leverage" to lead .... a status that I suspect many of these terror leaders are now positioning themselves to assume.
