Yemen's President Steps Down After 33 Years -- The Telegraph

Yemen's Ali Abdullah Saleh came under unprecedented pressure from former allies before finally agreeing to step down.

Since the onset of street protests against his rule nine months ago, Ali Abdullah Saleh had responded with bitter intransigence and a determination not to be hounded from office.

Yemen's neighbours from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tried to break the deadlock by negotiating an agreement providing for his resignation. Three times, Mr Saleh promised to sign this accord - and three times he broke this pledge.
