A sickening culture of waste within the Ministry of Defence has been revealed just days before military chiefs are due to announce a raft of swingeing cuts to Britain's already hard-pressed armed forces.

As brave troops fought bloody battles in Afghanistan, desk-bound workers within the MoD saw fit to blow almost £1million on such luxuries as gallery trips, gym equipment, jewellery and nightclubs.
