Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez was stable and recovering in Cuba after doctors removed a lesion from his pelvic region Tuesday that the ailing leader has said might be malignant.
Speaking to the National Assembly, Vice President Elias Jaua said doctors had completely removed the lesion and surrounding tissue. The samples would be analyzed “in coming hours to determine the optimal treatment for the lesion,” Jaua said. The government also reported that no neighboring organs were affected.
