Syrian soldiers continued their attacks on two rebel towns today hours after the passing of a deadline of a UN peace agreement to pull out of troops and heavy weaponry from built-up areas.

Regime tanks remained on the streets and shells were fired on the central city of Homs and Mareh in the northwest today, according to human rights activists observing the 13-month-long conflict.
