My Comment: Aside from deterrence .... the case can be made that nuclear weapons only serve a limited purpose in today's world. But deterrence is the reason why we have nuclear weapons .... and while there is no real enemy today to be targeted by these systems .... history provides us with an understanding that we do live in dangerous times .... and in such a volatile world .... who can say with certainty on what dangers and threats may appear in the future.
