How Syria's 'Desert Rose' Became 'The First Lady Of Hell' -- The Guardian

"Asma al-Assad is a glamorous, young, and very chic - the freshest and most magnetic of first ladies. Her style is not the couture-and-bling dazzle of Middle Eastern power but a deliberate lack of adornment. Asma al-Assad is "a good-looking woman of 35... as brisk as a prefect, as on-message as a banker, as friendly as a new acquaintance at a friend's cocktail party... like the kind of young Englishwoman you'd hear having lunch at the next table at Harvey Nichols... the first lady of hell."

My Comment: The brutality of the Syrian regime was known long before the Vogue article came out on Asma al-Assad, and claims by Vogue editor Joan Juliet Buck that she was duped does not pass the smell test. She made good cover for Vogue .... as to everything else .... Vogue went into denial.
Sighhh .... such is the state of Western culture today.
