Congo Rebels Take Key City of Goma -- Wall Street Journal

KAMPALA, Uganda—Rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday seized the eastern city of Goma, dealing a stinging blow to the Congolese government and United Nations peacekeepers based in the commercial hub.

The fall of Goma, which also serves as the de facto capital for many humanitarian aid agencies operating in the region, marks a decisive shift in restive eastern Congo. The fighting between government troops and rebels, who allegedly draw support from eastern neighbors Rwanda and Uganda, threatens to engulf one of Africa's largest countries in renewed conflict.
