For Sale: West’s Deadly Nuclear Secrets

On the heels of yesterday's Presidential debates, when Bill Richardson mentioned that Russia had sold nuclear materials to terrorists, The Times runs the following story:

A WHISTLEBLOWER has made a series of extraordinary claims about how corrupt government officials allowed Pakistan and other states to steal nuclear weapons secrets.

My Comment: Should anyone be surprised? Future historians will look back at this time and wonder how the U.S. was able to attain super power status even when it had many traitors in its government. From the Rosenthals selling nuclear secrets to the Soviets, to fellow travelers supporting the Communists in Indo-China and/or the Soviet union, The U.S. and the West in general has always had a large group of individuals who believed that their point of view is the right one, and our elected representatives should not be the ones dictating policy.

We in the West, with a few exceptions, have been very lucky that we have not paid dearly for this situation. Our strength has always been our diversity of opinion and an environment of political discourse. There are always a few will have take advantage of their position to personally prosper and/or be able to make a point across.

But in a world where nuclear materials are so readily available for a price.....I am just wondering if our luck is about to run out.
