BBC News:At least one Palestinian gunman has been killed in clashes between Israeli troops and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medics say.
The fighting came during Israel's first incursion into the Gaza Strip since a truce was agreed in June.
Israel said its troops had uncovered a tunnel along central Gaza's frontier which had been dug by militants intending to abduct Israeli soldiers.
The gun battle ensued after troops were sent to thwart the threat, Israel said.
The clashes broke out after Israeli troops "raided east of central Gaza Strip" near el-Bureij refugee camp, said a statement from Hamas, which controls the coastal enclave.
