PYONGYANG, North Korea, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has named a new defense minister and a chief of general staff as tension with the South mounts, officials said Thursday.
Observers in Seoul and Washington speculated the shakeup meant the North is preparing for a long-range missile test, Yonghap news agency said.
Analysts said the move was intended to show that Kim was still very much in command despite his age and recent stroke.
