Venezuela Looking At Aruba And The Antilles? -- ARES/Aviation Week
Galrahn from the indispensable Information Dissemination blog emailed yesterday with some more information about Venezuela's strategic interests in the Caribbean, following up on an earlier Ares post about why the country's president Hugo Chavez might launch military action against Aruba and the Antilles.

For both countries, the main interest in public from Venezuela is due to Venezuela's real problem in refinery capacity. There are actually two problems. First, the lack of international investment, which is why almost all of their oil exports go to the US, Netherlands Antilles, or Aruba. Second, Venezuela produces dirty, heavy crude and it costs a lot to get and refine.
