Colonel Gaddafi has ordered a mass clean-up operation as he tries to get rid of all evidence of crimes against humanity, it emerged today.
The news came as confirmation filtered through that Mistrata was under rebel control, while heavy fighting was reported in the town of Al-Zawiya, less than 40 miles west of Tripoli.
As opposition forces approached the Libyan capital, lorries and armoured cars have been seen picking up dead bodies lying in the street and inside burned-out buildings.
