Chile Government Denies Peru Allegations of Spying -- Latin American Herald Tribune

SANTIAGO – The Chilean government responded to accusations from Peru that it had obtained state secrets about planned arms purchases from a Peruvian air force non-commissioned officer, stating categorically that Santiago “does not spy” on other countries.

“We want to be very clear. Chile does not spy. Chile is a serious country in its international relations. We act under a framework of transparency and that’s been recognized worldwide,” government spokeswoman Carolina Toha said here Saturday at La Moneda presidential palace.

“We’re calm, but also firm, and Chile has nothing to hide,” Toha told reporters.
