The U.S. Air Force’s 62nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron at Kandahar maintains a force of “scores” of MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper armed drones, covering all of southern Afghanistan, 24 hours a day. The squadron launches and lands the ‘bots, and hands off control to operators in Nevada for most of a mission’s duration.
