Skelton Fears 'Chasm' Between Military, Citizens -- Stars And Stripes/AP
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Departing House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton said Thursday that he fears a chasm will develop between U.S. military troops and the rest of the citizenry.
For the 24th straight year, Skelton was the keynote speaker Thursday at the Veterans Day ROTC breakfast at Lincoln University. It was his first public event since the longtime Democratic Missouri congressman lost last week's election to Republican Vicky Hartzler.

My Comment: I would not call it a 'chasm', but a difference in focus and priorities between those who are in the military (or who have family/friends in the military), and everyone else. But even with this difference in focus and priorities, the U.S. military still enjoys a 81% favorable rating .... a stat that departing House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton and his fellow U.S. Congressional members can only dream about.
Hmmmm .... the U.S. Congress that departing House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton is a member of has a favorable rating in the low teens .... now that is a 'chasm'.
